We’re simply not ready for this: the state of the Indiana actually matters on a national level election (well, even if it is the Democratic nominee, it still is probably the most exciting voting thing here in the Midwest since… let me think about that for a moment).
Anyway, I got my first attack mailer from the Republican the Democratic challenger to Barack Obama that tells me that Obama is a liar and is in the same poker game as the “Bush/Cheney Administration.” Oooo, that just is so poetic, isn’t it? Not just Bush or Cheney, but BushCheney.
Why are you lying to me, Barack? I thought you were going to be the person to change things, to give me something to hope for and in? Now, I learn from www.citizen.org, and, well, “Paid for by Hillary Clinton for President,” that “Indiana families can’t afford Barack Obama” because “Energy company employees donated over $650,000 to Barack Obama and GOT WHAT THEY WANTED.”
Perhaps I should just vote for McCain.

Barack isn’t lying to you. Oil companies are not the same as “energy company employees.” I, for example, work in the finance industry, but my donations (which were to Barack) definitely don’t represent any sort of interest on the part of my employer.
That mailer is just shameless. I can only hope Barack isn’t sending out similar propaganda.
Eliot,
I suppose I was a bit insulted that the HRC camp thinks we be dumb in the Midwest (though technically, I grew up in No. California). Even if we watch the news, we’ve been warned of the game plan anyway.
I’d be like if Coach Norman Dale (the coach in _Hooisers_) had to make the call for the final shot of next year’s playoff game. First of all, should he call the “picket fence” anyway?–but also–you have to think the other side is looking for it (along with the entire gym).
My point is: Don’t you think the American public wants a bit more than a shock and awe campaign? And, for my fellow Hoosiers: don’t you think this state deserves more than a smear campaign of old, old tactics.
Peace,
Chris
BTW: I haven’t heard or read stuff like this coming from Obama (yet?)
So what is it the oil companies “got?” The high oil prices are not under their control, really. Nor does “BushCheney” control them.
I hate this stuff, too, because it implies that we’re all too stoooopid to do any skeptical analysis.
(psst! Dave. “Run the picket fence.”)
See, I think the message is to continue to run the same type of campaign that might have worked when peoples _didn’t_ have access to more information. And granted: Indiana hasn’t really been important before (in general) on a national election. I wonder what the consults told the candidates (”Uh. Okay. Indiana is somewhere in the middle of the US, right?)
Peace,
Chris
