Chimes, triangles, drums, piano, snares, cymbals, bells and whistles are only a few of the instruments played by percussionist Kelsey Prieshoff (11).

“Snare is the most challenging for me because you have to have a lot of strength in your arms to continuously play the stroke and to get faster as well,” Prieshoff said. “You have to sound clean, too.”

After playing for six years, Kelsey has come in contact with many instruments. Her favorite instrument to play is the vibraphone.

“You can control the sound really well,” Prieshoff said, “I mean, obviously you can control the sound of every instrument because you’re the one playing it, but with the vibraphone, you can control the length of the note how you want it and keep it sounding powerful or intimidating, or really sweet and mellow.”

Playing percussion involves many different instruments and experiences.

“I like it because it’s so versatile, and you can play around with the sounds,” Prieshoff said.
